Among her professional background, Dr. Famuyiwa is an Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University School of Medicine and an attending physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Throughout her academic career, she received her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. She did her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. from 1989 to 1993. She held a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at The National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland from 1993 to 1995. She also holds a degree in Biological Sciences from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
A Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & reproductive endocrinology and infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.
In her line of work, Dr. Famuyiwa has lectured at numerous medical conferences, participated in research affecting women’s health, as well as has written for books, medical journals, and periodicals. Some of the honors that she has received include being cited in the Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americans in 1992 and winning the Women in Endocrinology Travel Award during the 10th International Congress of Endocrinology in 1996.
Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to the reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. Reproductive endocrinologists are the only doctors trained in providing fertility treatments using assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg freezing. They are also trained in obstetrics and gynecology, and then have additional training to provide fertility treatment.
In her personal life, Dr. Famuyiwa lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her husband and three young children. They enjoy hiking and being in nature.
