He later attained a specialization in addiction psychiatry after observing the growing population of adults being challenged by various addictive behaviors. In 2004, he earned his Doctorate degree in Islamic Studies and Western Medicine from The Graduate Theological Foundation, an affiliate of Oxford University.
A sought after speaker, Dr. Uddin is often invited to address the current psychological and social issues of Muslims, in particular American Muslims. He has worked extensively to motivate and inspire youth leadership in both the United States and India, and has a wide range of medical and spiritual training which informs his dynamic, multidimensional approach to medicine, psychology, and spiritual health.
To date, he belongs to many professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American College of Addiction Psychiatry, the Islamic Medical Association of North America, the International Islamic Institute of Medicine, the American Association of Physicians from India, the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America, the National Association of Mental Illness, Doctors without Borders, the Indian Medical Association of Hyderabad, and the American Federation of Muslims of India (where he serves as President).
Dr. Uddin attributes his success to his grandmother who was also a physician. She inspired him to live life with passion and to do good for one another- that is the mission he has carried throughout his life.
Outside of practicing psychiatry, Dr. Uddin enjoys writing poetry. His favorite poet is Rumi and one of his favorite Rumi quotes is “Service to man is Service to God.” He also enjoys fishing, playing tennis, hiking, and being outdoors. His favorite place to vacation in is Colorado. His favorite professional publication is JAMA Psychiatry. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, and Telugu.
