(YorkPedia Editorial):- Northridge, Oct 15, 2020 (Issuewire.com) – Across California, the demand for security guards has grown in 2020–the result of the multitude of calamities that have taken place this year, according to Access Control Security (ACS), a California security guard company that offers security guard training classes.
“The demand for security services is greater than the available trained and licensed security guards,” says Reza Jalala, ACS director of security and operations. “The pandemic, civil unrest and wildfires have elevated the need for private security guards Security firms and their guards have always played a big role in public security, but their security services and skills have never been so important. We expect the need for security guards to continue to grow as we head into 2021.”
It takes time to train and license guards so they are effective in the field. Applicants must go through a thorough screening and training process. They are fingerprinted and subjected to Department of Justice and FBI criminal history background checks. They then must successfully complete Bureau of Security, Investigative Services (BSIS) courses before receiving a security guard card. Lesson topics include the power to arrest, de-escalation techniques, use of force, restraint techniques and trespass laws. The security guard card enables the guard to begin work at a security guard company.
Once hired, guards must successfully complete an additional 32 hours of compulsory education within the first six months of employment and annual continuing education thereafter.
“We expect even more from our guards than other security companies,” says Jalala. “When the pandemic hit, we provided guards with health screening training. When families and businesses were evacuated during the fires, our guards were prepared to step in to patrol vacant property to prevent looting and vandalism. Guards must be flexible and confident in their skills to take on an assortment of security tasks when the need arises.
