The central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh showcased its rich heritage and culture offering to the UK and international travellers during World Travel Market held from 1-3 November 2021 in London. This year, the Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, Mr. Viswanathan Subbayyan lead the high-powered delegation at the event. Mr. Subbayyan not only champions eco-tourism and wellness initiatives but is also dedicated to the promotion of culture, tribal empowerment, and regenerative tourism.

The ‘Rural Tourism Project’ of Madhya Pradesh received a Global Award in the category of “Destination Building Back Better Post Covid”. In another category, ‘Increasing Diversity in Tourism’, the concept of “Madhya Pradesh Safe Destination for Women” received the “Ones to Watch” Award. The prestigious awards were received by Mr. S. Viswanathan, MD, MPSTDC, and Mr. Yuvraj Padole, Dy. Director, MPTB, and the award was presented by Mr. Simon Press, Exhibition Director, WTM London, and Dr. Harold Goodwin, President, Responsible Tourism Awards.
Travel writer wins award for a story on tigers in MP
Charlotte Wigram Evans won the AITO Young Travel Writer of the Year award for her piece on Madhya Pradesh which appeared in the May 2020 issue of National Geographic Traveller UK. The article, titled “Tales of the tiger: searching for big cats in India’s wildest state” featured an exclusive first-hand account of Charlotte’s travels in Madhya Pradesh.
