He has recently taken over the leadership of the newly created Division of Emergency Medicine at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, where he is a Professor of Integrated Medical Science in the Department of Integrated Medical Science. He previously served as the Emergency Medicine Program Director at Morristown Medical Center for 19 years.
Florida Atlantic University’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine is one of the most recent LCME accredited medical schools in the United States. The college was launched in 2010 when it became the 134th allopathic medical school in North America. He then went on to complete a surgical internship at the University of Maryland, a residency in emergency medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware, and a fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the New York Poison Center, Bellevue-NYU Medical Center.

An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Shih has received a number of teaching awards, including the American College of Emergency Physicians National Faculty Teaching Award, and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine Educator of The Year Award. He has authored over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, over 20 book chapters and has been an editor in 3 medical books.
