As a testament to his continued education, he is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). In the 1970s, Dr. Vogel served as the Chief of the National Cancer Institute’s Uganda Cancer Institute. After practicing in Uganda, he received the United States Public Health Service Commendation Medal.
More than 250 of his manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed publications. During his time in Uganda, he was part of the research team that demonstrated the relationship between hepatitis and primary liver cancer. He also published one of three initial clinical trials of Herceptin for women with breast cancer.
In 2019, Dr. Vogel was awarded the First Annual “Legend in Cancer Care” Award at Total Health Conferencing’s “Best of Breast” conference. That same year, he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s “Health Care Heroes” award ceremony.
When he is not treating patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling with family, and scuba diving. He has completed more than 500 dives all over the world and visits St. Kitts each year to dive with sharks.
