(YorkPedia Editorial):- Olyphant, Pennsylvania Jul 1, 2026 (Issuewire.com) – Shelly Youshock, RN, a highly experienced Registered Nurse and Care Manager with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, continues to make a meaningful impact on patient care through nearly 40 years of clinical expertise and a steadfast commitment to the nursing profession. Drawing from a diverse background spanning operating room nursing, critical care, cardiology, and nursing education, Shelly now applies her extensive knowledge to care management, helping patients navigate complex healthcare systems while promoting positive outcomes and evidence-based care.
Based in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, Shelly currently serves as a Care Manager, where she leverages advanced clinical competencies in ACLS, electronic medical record systems, ambulatory care, and cardiology to coordinate care for patients with complex medical needs. Her ability to bridge direct patient care experience with broader healthcare system knowledge allows her to support informed decision-making and ensure patients receive the resources and guidance necessary to achieve optimal health outcomes.
Shelly’s nursing journey began in the operating room, where she spent approximately 20 years building expertise in a variety of specialized roles. During that time, she served as a charge nurse, circulating nurse, scrub nurse, trauma support nurse, tissue harvest coordinator, and ambulatory ENT surgery nurse. Her versatility and leadership in high-pressure environments established a strong clinical foundation that would support her throughout her career.
Following her years in surgical nursing, Shelly transitioned into critical care, dedicating a decade to intensive care nursing. During this period, she earned and maintained her CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in one of healthcare’s most demanding specialties. Her critical care experience provided invaluable insight into the complexities of patient management and interdisciplinary collaboration.
In recent years, Shelly expanded her expertise into outpatient cardiology, gaining hands-on experience with stress testing, cardiac CT preparation, and the care of patients undergoing cardioversions and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) procedures. This broad clinical background has enabled her to develop a comprehensive understanding of patient care across multiple settings and stages of treatment.
Shelly earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Scranton and later completed a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Wilkes University. In addition to her clinical accomplishments, she has contributed to the development of future healthcare professionals through her work as a clinical instructor.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Shelly is deeply committed to honoring the nursing community. She is a co-founder of the NEPA Nurse Honor Guard, a volunteer organization dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the lives of nurses who have passed away.
“What I enjoy most about nursing is being able to help people and make a difference in their lives,” Shelly explains. “I’ve always wanted to give back to the nursing community, which is why I’m so proud that we started the Nurse Honor Guard here in Northeast Pennsylvania. We honor nurses at their funerals with a special ceremony, presenting a Florence Nightingale lamp and a white rose. We provide this service at no cost because it’s about respecting our fallen nurses and giving them the recognition they deserve.”
Through her clinical leadership, educational contributions, and dedication to preserving nursing traditions, Shelly Youshock continues to exemplify the compassion, professionalism, and service that define the nursing profession.
