Veteran Singer S P Balasubrahmanyam Passes Away And Will Live With His Youthful Voice In Over 40,000 Songs

S P Balasubrahmanyam, the legendary singer who was popularly known as SPB and Balu and has enthralled millions with his youthful voice died on Friday at 1.04 pm. He was undergoing treatment at a Chennai hospital for Covid-19. He was 74-years-old when he passed away.

A release has been issued by the assistant director of the hospital, Dr. Anuradha Baskaran, that there has been a further setback this morning. With the best effort by the clinical team, he has been put on maximum life support measures, but his health condition deteriorated further and he suffered a big cardio-respiratory arrest. The hospital authorities expressed profound grief, and regret to inform that the legendary singer has passed away.

Singer SP Charan, who is the son of SPB thanked all of them who have prayed for his great father. He also thanked the nurses and doctors who have taken care of him. He also added that as a singer, he was the property of everyone and he is going to be alive for the fans.

SPB has sung an incredible number of more than 40,000 songs in a career that spanned almost 55 years. He had been undergoing thorough treatment since 5th August in MGM Healthcare.

He has been admitted to the hospital as he had mild symptoms of Covid-19. A video has been posted by the singer on his social media page on the same day. In that video message, SPB has said that he had little discomfort for the last two to three days. H also had little chest congestion and said that it is nonsense for a singer. He also added in the video that he had a fever and phlegm with cold.

His last words that the fans heard of him was when he said that he is perfectly alright but the fever and cold have been bothering him. He also mentioned being discharged in two days as his fever had also subsided and expected to get back home. He said that a lot of people called him but he added that he could not attend those calls. He said that he went to the hospital mainly to enough rest and take medication as there is no disturbance.

But on the 13th of August things took a bad turn and his oxygen starvation level dropped. And he was put on life support after moving him to the ICU. On 24th September, however, the hospital authority said that he was extremely critical and suffered a brain hemorrhage. He passed just a day later.

The singer is survived by Savithri, his wife, son Charan, and daughter Pallavi.

His name is Sripathi Panditaradhulya Balasubrahmanyam and was born in a Telegu Brahmin family in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district on 4th June in 1946. In 1966, he made his debut as a playback singer in Telegu movie ‘Sri Sri Maryadha Ramayan’ starting an eclectic career.
