His favorite part of being a doctor at Lake Forest Acute Care is getting to know his patients and hearing their stories.
In regard to his educational background, Dr. Mass graduated with his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1988. He then completed an internship in general surgery through the University of Michigan. This was followed by a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
After completing his residency, Dr. Mass served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center. He has been on staff at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital since 1999, where he has served as the EMS Medical Director, and he is also on staff at Advocate Condell Medical Center.
Board-certified in emergency medicine, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.
Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician may work in an emergency department or in an outpatient setting such as an urgent care center or acute care center. Emergency physicians care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
Happily married, Dr. Mass lives in Lake Forest with his wife, four daughters, and two wheaten terriers.
Active in the community, and with his church. You can see him regularly at many community functions. He was a youth soccer coach for 10 years and continues to support youth soccer in Lake Forest.
