(YorkPedia Editorial):- New York City, New York Mar 21, 2023 (Issuewire.com) – A highly trained gastroenterologist, Dr. Benjamin Levy III has served as the Division Head of Gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and as a COVID-19 Ambassador for the Illinois Department of Public Health.  He has a passion for both public health and cancer prevention.  

Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Illinois is a 319-licensed bed acute care safety-net, teaching hospital and Level I Adult Trauma Center.

After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a minor in Biology from the University of Virginia, Dr. Benjamin Levy went on to earn his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in 2008. He completed his residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in 2011, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center New Orleans in 2014.  Dr. Levy was awarded Gambit Magazine’s 2013 Top 40 under 40 in New Orleans for his public health education efforts.  

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding membership status, Dr. Benjamin Levy is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology’s Public Relations Committee, and the FDA-Related Matters Committee.  In March 2021, Dr. Levy organized Tune It Up: A Concert To Raise Colon Cancer Awareness which was sponsored by the American College of Gastroenterology.

In 2017, Dr. Benjamin Levy founded a gastroenterology clinic for refugees resettling in Chicago.  Subsequently, Dr. Levy was selected to complete the Emerging Leaders Program at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in 2017 and the American College of Gastroenterology’s Young Physician Leadership Scholars Program in 2018. 

With a passion for teaching, Dr. Levy has served as an Affiliate Clinical Assistant Professor at Roosevelt University and as Head of GI Education for residents and medical students at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Levy received the Health Care Education Association’s “Outstanding Research Award” in 2007.  

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Benjamin Levy started an international health education campaign named “Concerts & Cocktails” that teamed up musicians with physicians and nurses on the front lines. He was subsequently selected to be a TEDx speaker and Music Director at TEDxWrigleyville – “Humanity: An Inside View of the Pandemic.” An avid cellist, Dr. Levy is co-chair of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Soundpost series. During medical school, he organized the Music Inspires Health national concert tour featuring rock and hip-hop musicians Ingrid Michaelson and Trey Songz which was sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.  Dr. Levy was subsequently awarded a CDC Outstanding New Researcher Award at the 2009 National HIV Prevention Conference. Dr. Levy completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Paris researching music with advisors at the Sorbonne and the Orchestre de Paris.
