Educated in India, Dr. Nigam graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in 1990. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency within the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of Missouri, after which he moved to St. Louis University for his last year of residency.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Nigam served in the role of psychiatric director within the Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at Greenville Regional Hospital, as consulting psychiatrist at Anderson Hospital, as attending psychiatrist at Gateway Regional Hospital, as a consultant psychiatrist at St. Anthony’s Hospital, and as medical director at the Community Counseling Center of Alton.
On a professional level, he is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Clinical TMS Society.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
