Water is life and what has been free earlier is now becoming a luxury. While no human can survive without water; an emerging trend of the privileged world shows that water can be an expensive option of luxury as well. Monsoons have passed and now, people around the Himalayan region climb up to get as much water as they can as it is one of the most expensive assets right now. Packaged Himalayan Water can cost up to $6 per bottle but it does not matter, since it tastes so fresh that people call it nectar.

While there are many countries that suffer from a shortage of water or do have not enough resources to get clean water; the world seems to have another side as well. Not just the Himalayan area, but laborers work in the toughest landscapes to get the purest form of water that has a high demand among the western countries. Even though the United Nations considered water to be a basic human right more than a decade ago; millions of people around the world still do not have ample water to drink.

Perhaps people are more thirsty for this luxury water which has become widely famous. It is a very fashionable attribute for privileged people who like to uncap it and taste it like fine wine. This luxury water is collected from some of the most difficult places which makes it even more expensive. Staring from the volcanic rock of Hawaii, melting glaciers in Norway to the morning mist in Tasmania; luxury water can be collected from various places but not sure if pure water has taste.

Founder of the Fine Water Society, Michael Mascha said, “Water is not just water”. He justifies saying that consumers of high-end water to foodies who’d drive miles to find heirloom tomatoes or a rare salt. Some drink fine water instead of alcohol. He further added, “Having the right stemware, drinking at the right temperature, pairing it with food, celebrating with water – all those kinds of things are important.”

Luxury water brands are growing in popularity and profitable business options that can empower a handful of people working in the field. It is definitely a profitable business option where nature does the most. But still harvesting that natural water is still a risky job. And collecting water from natural resources is nothing new but still, a question of sustainability still remains while ice is melting like crazy.

Water is a priceless material because no one can live without it. But now, it is becoming expensive!
