Craig Phillips, the TV star and the former winner of the reality show Big Brother, has described how horrible he felt when the brakes failed on his Jaguar. He was driving a Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle when the incident happened. It is the second report of the brakes failing on this particular Jaguar model while it is still in motion. Craig reported that it was completely “terrifying” to feel “out of control” of the Jaguar while his family was still inside the car. Jaguar said it is investigating and takes two of the claims very seriously. Earlier this week, another I-Pace driver faced the same difficulties with the brakes. He claimed that he was unable to brake on a motorway. In his incident, as the car accelerated, the police had to flank it.

Upon the two back-to-back incidents, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said, “Following the incident involving a Jaguar I-Pace on the M62 on the afternoon of 6th March, we are looking into this matter with urgency.” “A full review is underway to determine the cause of this incident, which is still yet to be established. The safety of our clients and vehicles is JLR’s highest priority,” the statement continued. It is also said that Craig Phillips’ claim is taken seriously by the company too. His experience happened on New Year’s Eve in 2023 which was first reported by Daily Mail.

In a recent interview with BBC News, Craig Phillips said, “In the afternoon, I’d set off from home with my wife and kids in the back of the car. I’d barely gone a mile from home and as I came to traffic lights, traveling at about 30mph, three cars away from the lights I could not brake.” “I was pushing on the pedal, but the hydraulic felt like it was pushing my foot up. My whole body was locked up trying to push down on the brake,” he continued further. In the interview, he said fortunately it was the lights that changed from red then, as he could not stop physically. “I immediately returned home really slowly. I didn’t want to go above 10 to 15mph. I would not want anyone else to be in the same situation, particularly with children in the back.” He said he owned the car for more than three years and following this incident has now returned it. Phillips further called for a full recall of the model as a safety precaution by Jaguar.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson commented, “We are taking these recent claims by Mr Phillips very seriously and are looking into his complaint. In addition, we are concerned to hear that Mr Phillips may not have received the high levels of care to which we hold ourselves accountable.” “Our client experience as well as the safety of our clients and vehicles is JLR’s highest priority,” he further said. Like many other electric vehicles, Jaguar I-Pace offers regenerative braking where the energy is created as the vehicle’s brakes are re-captured and then sent back to the battery.
