A must-read series of books by Author Wallace Briggs intended to teach young readers a very important life lesson from The Adventures of Jimmy Crikey self-acceptance is a key part of mental health. It’s defined as “an individual’s acceptance of all of their attributes, positive or negative”. In other words, self-acceptance is about embracing every part of yourself, not just the positive things.

It’s an unconditional form of acceptance–you can recognize your weaknesses, but still, fully accept yourself.

Wallace Briggs was born into a family of four children. His father passed away when he was only seventeen, and his mother did her best to provide for her children.

Despite their circumstances, Wallace Briggs was determined to make something of himself. He worked hard and eventually. After a long career in technical sales, once he retired, he became a successful author.

Wallace was born and raised in Durham City. He married his childhood sweetheart, Pat, in 1964, and they spent 40 happy years together in the North East before Wallace’s job almost took them to South Africa. However, their plans changed at the last minute and the company moved them to East Sussex instead.

After 20 years working in southern England, he and Pat moved to rural Lancashire in NW England where they have lived for the last twenty years. Pat is severely affected by arthritis and Wallace was her primary carer until her widowed sister, Denise, moved in to assist.

He rarely has enough time to devote to playing his Hammond organ, but he’s learned to accept that. Painting scenes on pottery and kiln firing is a pastime that only came after his retirement. Wallace is an author of a 5-part series of children’s books that follows the adventures of his main character, Jimmy Crikey. Author.

Wallace has always been full of imagination and had stories to tell even when he was still a kid, but rather than encouragement, he was admonished for confusing Imagination with reality.  At school, he was fascinated by the stories of other children who had been fortunate enough to travel further from home than he had. He listened with envy to tales of week-long stays in Devon and ten-day tours of the Scottish Highlands. When it was time for Eddy to write his own holiday story, he based it on an imaginary voyage to Australia. Eddy couldn’t imagine anything more exciting than emigrating to Australia, and he loved writing about it. He might have started writing much sooner than he did if only he had been encouraged to do so.

As for Jimmy Crikey: the story was created on a family seaside holiday around 1974, entertaining a young son and his newfound friends on a rainy day many summers ago. It has since expanded and been adapted to entertain other children in similar situations. Jimmy Crikey overcame many hurdles on his route to becoming the much-admired hero of Room below. His unusual appearance was a source of much bullying. Jimmy had a mop of bright red spikey hair, a small snub nose, startling blue eyes, large pointed ears, and enormous feet. The problem with Jimmy’s very large feet was that he was forever tripping over them. As a result, he was usually last in any team game, and the other children did not want Jimmy on their team. Jimmy’s search for acceptance took him to the underground world of Room below and because of his many adventures in that land beneath our feet, Jimmy established a lifelong friendship with Gemma, the little lady who lived in a cave at the bottom of the well but couldn’t recall how she came to be there. On yet another adventure Jimmy discovered a cliff-side world called Lithnia and people there looked just like Gemma. Jimmy promised to take her there to meet up with any remaining family members.

He’s confident that readers will love them. His message is really simple, dreams can come true, but it takes dedication and hard work to make them a reality.

Don’t rely on luck or things beyond your control. If you set your sights high and work towards your goals, you can achieve anything you dream of. It’s important to be accepting of yourself, flaws and all. This self-acceptance is closely linked to happiness. The more accepting you are of yourself, the more happiness you’re able to experience. If you don’t have self-acceptance, it’s likely that your mental well-being will suffer as a result.
