Mr. Muhammad Tahir Lakhani is the Managing Director and Chairman of Dubai Trading Agency, UAE, and also a respected member of the US-based Propeller Club. Mr. Tahir Lakhani has played a vital role in making the UAE an international hub for logistics and maritime business. Despite being a Pakistani, he always represented UAE in his career. He was born on April 27, 1962, in Karachi, Pakistan. He was the part of UAE Association as Vice Chairman until 2019.
Mr. Muhammad Tahir Lakhani became a well-known sportsperson in his early years as he proved his excellence from a tender age. Later on, he enjoyed some great achievements with his sheer efforts and superior talent. He became the youngest tennis player to represent his country at Davis Cup and he moved in the same direction. He also made his fame by playing for Pakistan in Jr. Wimbledon. He marked his presence in the world of tennis and explored some great opportunities in the shipping business.

He started his career in the shipping industry in his early twenties and gained immense industry experience that helped him to enjoy name and fame. Mr. Tahir Lakhani worked for his friend’s shipping yard in Pakistan to start up. He worked in a 12-hour shift and he was appointed to supervise and manage steel plates’ movement.
After enjoying a great industry experience, he moved to Dubai and started his business journey. He started his shipping business in 1985 where he started buying and selling vessels. He was focused on not only buying and selling ships, but also sending them to recycling yards for the purpose of decommissioning.
He became Dubai’s first cash buyer of vessels. It was one of his biggest achievements. Then, he started his full-time operations in the nation. At the same time, he also organized the Green Recycling Conference for the first time in Dubai by working with TradeWinds.
Key Recognitions and Success:
Muhammad Tahir Lakhani bought three VLCC’s ex-Adriatic tankers off the UAE in foreign waters and struck his life’s biggest deal by delivering them to Pakistan. It was the biggest deal for decommissioning ships ever in those times. He secured some major achievements in his business in 1997 when he was selling and buying over 100 ships every year as the biggest ‘cash buyer’ of vessels.
He moved to the UK in 1999 after gaining prominence across the world in the shipping business. Muhammad Tahir Lakhani shifted to the UK with family and, in 2009, he gained UK citizenship. He kept on visiting Dubai for his business. He moved back in 2014 to focus completely on his company business.
