Not much information has been provided about the next World of Warcraft expansion, Shadowlands. The alpha is constantly active; much of the information comes out of data mining, with Wowhead leading the pack in that regard.

The most recent information has come from the recent Shadowlands Alpha Build, 34199. World Of Warcraft: Shadowlands to bring new gamepad supportwhich comes with a great amount of information for the users to get involved within, but the addition of the new controller support is probably the most exciting thing for the fans.

As mentioned in the official Twitter handle of Wowhead, the players will be able to bind their keys to a controller or gamepad. The players will have the option of customizing buttons due to complete control over the controller.

One thing which is important to note about this, seeing as it’s one of the first things that comes to mind when controllers are mentioned, is that this is not a sign of World of Warcraft being ported to any consoles. Blizzard has been quite adamant that they have no intention of bringing the MMORPG over to consoles.

Instead, the added support will be focusing completely on accessibility. For the differently-abled people, this controller will be pretty easy to handle compared to the keyboards with dozens of keys. The only objective here is to engage as many people as possible through World of Warcraft without letting the physical confinements create a barrier.

Blizzard has written, ‘For a long time, we’ve seen a small number of players turn to 3rd party add-ons, such as Console Port, in order to work through certain accessibility issues. We always want to make WoW more widely accessible, if possible, so in Shadowlands, we’re attempting to add some support for key binds, camera, and turning a character on controllers such as the Xbox Adaptive Controller.’

This addition is certainly great and shouldn’t face any backlash from the users. No player has faced problems due to this; if you don’t like it then do not use it.

If they decide to make the games appear over consoles, though, it’s fantastic to already have an outline ready for the controller support. It is certainly a great thing for the players, and also provides a great addition of accessibility to engage more people into the World of Warcraft.
